SDLM-016-032-01-01M direct drive linear servo motor with built-in encoder

Product Overview

The SDLM-016-032-01-01M is the smallest fully enclosed direct drive linear servo motor in Moticont's SDLM series. Also known as an electric cylinder, it integrates a quadrature optical encoder and an internal temperature sensor in a compact housing measuring only 0.625 in. (15.9 mm) in diameter and 1.25 in. (31.8 mm) long.

Performance and Construction

The actuator provides a 0.250 in. (6.35 mm) stroke, 4.1 oz (1.14 N) of continuous force, and 13.0 oz (3.61 N) of intermittent force at a 10% duty cycle. Its non-commutated direct drive design eliminates mechanical transmission components, providing zero mechanical backlash, no cogging, rapid acceleration and deceleration, quiet operation, and long service life. The low-inertia, non-rotating shaft is supported by plain linear bearings.

Integrated Encoder and Temperature Sensor

The internal quadrature optical encoder is directly coupled to the output shaft and provides 1.25-micron resolution for closed-loop position and velocity control. Final system accuracy and repeatability depend on the controller, mechanical mounting, load, structural stiffness, feedback interpretation, and servo tuning. The integrated temperature sensor enables the controller to monitor motor temperature, helping the system achieve high throughput while remaining within the actuator's thermal limits.

Key Features

• Fully enclosed compact linear servo actuator
• Integrated 1.25-micron-resolution quadrature optical encoder
• Internal temperature sensor for thermal monitoring
• Zero mechanical backlash and no cogging
• Non-rotating output shaft with plain linear bearings
• Low moving mass for high acceleration and fast response
• Flex cable terminated in a polarized 2-by-5 connector
• Threaded mounting holes for straightforward system integration

Applications

Medical and Life Sciences: Infusion pumps, prosthetic devices, surgical robotics, pipetting, sampling, and laboratory automation.
Industrial Automation: Robotic end effectors, precision assembly, sorting, packaging, inspection, and small-part positioning.
Aerospace and Transportation: Aircraft instrumentation, drones, satellites, rockets, automotive products, and test equipment.
Optical and Scientific Equipment: Microscope stages, optical positioning, scanning systems, and precision measurement equipment.

Mechanical Integration and Control

Direct coupling of the load or stage to the low-inertia, non-rotating shaft eliminates transmission backlash and supports rapid dynamic response. Threaded mounting holes are provided on the actuator body and shaft ends for integration into new or existing equipment. The SDLM-016-032-01-01M can be operated with a compatible servo controller and current amplifier selected for the required force, speed, duty cycle, load, and motion profile.
