Product OverviewThe DDLM-038-051-01 is a fully enclosed direct drive linear motor actuator designed for smooth, fast, and repeatable bidirectional motion. Also described as an electric cylinder, it combines a non-commutated voice coil motor, an integral shaft, and long-life plain linear bearings in a compact ready-to-integrate assembly.Performance and ConstructionThe actuator provides a 0.375 in. (9.5 mm) stroke, 3.1 lb (14.0 N) of continuous force, and 9.9 lb (44.1 N) of intermittent force at a 10% duty cycle. The housing measures 1.500 in. (38.1 mm) in outside diameter and 2.000 in. (50.8 mm) in length. Its direct-drive construction eliminates gears, belts, lead screws, and other transmission components, providing zero cogging and zero mechanical backlash when the shaft is coupled directly to the load.Key Features• Fully enclosed direct drive linear actuator• Integral 0.250 in. (6.4 mm) diameter shaft • Long-life plain linear bearings support the shaft • Smooth, non-commutated bidirectional force • Zero cogging and zero transmission backlash • High acceleration, rapid reversal, and fast settling • Threaded shaft ends for direct load attachment • 9/16-18 UNF threaded mounting studs at both housing ends Internal return springs are available as an option. ApplicationsTypical applications include pneumatic-cylinder replacement, clamping, pressing, industrial automation, material handling, packaging, testing, and high-force positioning. The enclosed construction and guided shaft make this actuator suitable for equipment that requires compact dimensions, controlled linear force, quiet operation, and direct load coupling.Mechanical Integration and Closed-Loop ControlThe internally threaded shaft ends allow the payload or mechanism to be connected directly to the actuator. The housing can be secured using the threaded mounting studs at both ends. For closed-loop position or velocity control, combine the actuator with an appropriate external position sensor, servo controller, and current amplifier. Final accuracy and repeatability depend on the feedback sensor, mechanical mounting, load, structural stiffness, controller, and servo tuning. |
